Yes! A DVD double dip I'll gladly pony up the money for!

They're gonna be re-releasing Twin Peaks all remastered and nice for a new series-spanning mega boxset this fall.
Word is, there will be tons of extras. And the DVD's being produced by the same guys who are working feverishly on the 4 disc superdeluxe Blade Runner set that's also coming in the fall.
This is something to be excited about. And trust me, I'm positively giddy with happiness about this.
Extras include the pilot episode (previously unavailable on R1 DVD) and interviews with most of the principals involved, EXCEPT some of the Twin Peaks hotties. Apparenly Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee and Laura Flynn Boyle didn't think enough of the series or wanted too much money. I don't believe I heard anything about Heather Graham, either way. But, my favorite name of all time (and my pick for the bestest of the babes from the show) Madchen Amick (Sleepwalkers, Dream Lover, Barry Sonnenfeld's fantastic Fantasy Island remake) did.
Pardon me while I do a happy dance here.
Funnily enough, I heard about this from a friend a couple of days ago. And apparently, according to the article, rumbings about it have been circulating for up to two years. Wow. Consider my finger firmly on the pulse of what's happening.
The fun thing? I'll probably donate my original issue DVDs to someone after I get this new box (instead of selling 'em). Why? Because there's always someone who's NEVER seen Twin Peaks and needs to.
This is great news, and I'll be itching for this set until it drops in October.

It's a SECRET

Somewhere in this post, there is a secret link. If this link is real, this represents the first definitive word about something long rumored, but never confirmed. And it means that the "reshoots" are done and it's really, REALLY happening. However, I'd bet a package like this isn't coming out in the US. And the bastards don't ship overseas. Dammit.

Movies You Really Should Own (and Don’t) Volume 1: The Car

When I picked up the DVD, I thought The Car was a TV movie. I’d seen it quite a few times on TV, and I’d loved it then. In fact, the movie had been theatrically released against Star Wars – and tanked horribly.
As a TV movie, robbed of its widescreen grandeur, The Car is a serviceable 70’s devil movie. I’m fond enough of the genre to own some of its classics (Satan’s Cheerleaders, The Devil’s Rain), so it was a no-brainer to pick it up.
Man, was I in for a treat. In its original aspect ratio, with its scenic vistas and expert framing, The Car is a classic of the horror genre. There is an element of remoteness to the framing of many of the shots – even though there are a group of characters, they are all alone. They live alone, they die alone…and in the case of Deputy Luke (Ronny Cox), they weep alone. Mr. Barbra Streisand himself, James Brolin performs quite adequately in the lead, but it is the titular Car that is the true star of the show…It roars, it gets pissed, and it kills (quite frequently).
Is the car driven by the devil himself? Well, the film wisely never answers that question. It ends, as it should with a big question mark.
The DVD offers little in the area of extras. There are widescreen and full frame versions of the movie, but what kind of fucking idiot wants to chop up a beauty and watch the full frame? There is also a theatrical trailer that I’m guessing was probably seen by twenty people back in 1977. Other than that, you get nuthin’. No goodies. No animated menus. No director commentary. Still, if you can find it for under $20, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up at all.
